Journal of the Month

British Journal of Healthcare Assistants - this is a journal especially for healthcare assistants and assistant practitioners, which we subscribe to for you. Each issue contains a wide range of bespoke, evidence-based articles providing examples of good practice in all areas of healthcare. Every article highlights learning outcomes, to support your training and to help extend your knowledge and skills.

Published once a month the journal is essential reading for all HCAs and APs who are serious about developing their own career, as well as providing the best possible support for the patients in their care. Authors include practice specialists and researchers leading in their field and BJHCA welcomes and encourages articles from HCAs and APs themselves.

You can access it online by logging in with your NHS OpenAthens username. If you struggle to remember to check the journal each month you also have the option of setting up a table of contents (ToC) alert whereby you receive an email each time new articles are published and can then log in and read the ones that interest you. See our post from 6th August for details of how to do this or ask us to help set it up for you.

To whet your appetite, titles of this month's topics include:

  • Taking good care of yourself
  • Rare health conditions 39: Krabbe disease; chronic atypical neutrophilic dermatosis with lipodystrophy and elevated temperature syndrome (‘CANDLE’); Batten disease; and working with young children
  • The importance of pulse oximetry
  • Healthcare challenge: protecting patient data privacy during a global pandemic
  • Obstetric complications and medical complexities in pregnancy. Part 2
