Books, literature searches and access to electronic resources are only a part of the service your health library provides. The library is also a physical space where you can study or get work done away from a noisy or overcrowded office or a busy home.  It is also a good "time out" zone to de-stress and chill and refocus your mind.

Refurbishment of Health Library at County

 

Exciting news that the Health Library at County is soon to undergo a programme of refurbishment. This will start with painting and decorating in the first 3 weeks of November. We aim to stay open as much as we can. Work will start upstairs on 1st November but we will keep the downstairs area open during this time.  This situation will reverse in the second week with upstairs being open to library users whilst downstairs is painted. Please observe any additional signposting and avoid areas marked out of bounds if accessing the library out of staffed hours.

We will have to close for a few days whilst there is scaffolding up to reach the apex at the chapel entrance. This section of the work is due to start on 10th November and we will let you know when the library is accessible again afterwards. Follow our social media posts on Twitter and Instagram for updates.

All our resources will continue to be available online as usual and staff are always contactable by email (library@uhnm.nhs.uk) Our books will be packed away for a few weeks but we can still request stock from Health Library at Stoke to be sent across for you. For the short period that the library is closed, library staff will be located in the PGMC. 

New carpeting, lighting and other developments are also planned in near future and we will keep you posted.

24/7 access to the library

We are pleased to announce that following lockdown during which the physical library facilities were closed, out of hours access has now been reinstated at the Health Library at County giving 24/7 admittance to eligible staff.

The library is currently staffed 10-4 Monday to Friday, although staff are working remotely outside of these hours. Library members can also access the library 9-5 when the PGMC building is open.

If you wish to access the library outside of the 9-5 you need to be a member of the library (join here:  https://www.keele.ac.uk/healthlibrary/usingthehealthlibrary/join/) and will need to contact us at library@uhnm.nhs.uk or pop in so we can sort out permissions.

If you have previously been granted out of hours access we suggest you test your badge or card to ensure it is functioning if you are planning on working late and advise that you don't pop out leaving anything in the building if you haven't tested your card to ensure you can re-enter. Please contact us in case of any problems or if you are unsure if you have previously applied for access. (Note that your library membership needs to be kept up-to-date for out of hours access cards to remain active).

If you have previously paid a refundable deposit as you are not a County hospital badge holder, and find that you no longer need out of hours access or are leaving the Trust, please return the card to us in person and we will provide your refund.

Library Opening Hours

 Please note that the Health Libraries will be closed on Bank Holiday Monday 31st August.

County Health Library will be open again from 1st September at 10.00 am.

 

Changes to health library services from 3rd August

We are pleased to say that from Monday 3rd August we will be open and staffed for an additional hour until 4pm each day Monday to Friday. We hope to have news of out of hours opening soon and will let you know as soon as we can.

Library staff are gradually getting back to normal having been working from home during lockdown. Current staffed opening hours are 10-3pm and this will be increasing to 10-4pm from August. We are still working remotely outside of these hours and can be contacted using the library email library@uhnm.nhs.uk.
