The
menopause is a natural part of ageing that usually occurs between 45 and 55
years of age as a woman's oestrogen levels decline.
Studies
have shown that menopause symptoms can have a significant impact on attendance
and performance in the workplace.
As our
populations are living longer, working longer and with so many women working
within the NHS it is important to support staff during this time to stay well
and thrive in their workplace.
World
Menopause Day is a worldwide awareness call for women who face health issues
when approaching, during and beyond the menopause.
The
International Menopause Society’s World Menopause Day Awareness Campaign
highlights the opportunity of using the menopausal period to assess
female-specific risk factors and preventing the development of cardiovascular
disease.
